What it is

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is an arcade-style combat flight game in which you fly real and fictional fighter jets through a war between two nations in a fictional alternate world. Gameplay centers on aerial dogfights and bombing runs: you lock onto enemy planes, ships, and ground installations and destroy them with missiles, guns, and special weapons while dodging incoming fire through storms, canyons, and clouds. Targets are military hardware, and hits register as fiery explosions and wreckage rather than injury to visible people. A story campaign delivered through briefings and radio dialogue frames the missions, and an online multiplayer mode lets players face strangers in competitive dogfights with voice and text chat available. There are no in-app purchases; in-game aircraft and upgrades are unlocked with points earned by playing.

How it's framed

The game frames combat as heroic military duty: you play an ace pilot carrying out sorties for your side in a national conflict, and success is measured by mission objectives and enemy targets downed. The narrative treats war seriously, touching on injustice, sacrifice, and the cost of large-scale battle, but violence is directed at vehicles and installations and is presented without blood or personal cruelty.
