What it is

Darksiders Warmastered Edition is a remaster of a third-person action-adventure hack-and-slash game. You play as War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who is falsely blamed for triggering the end of the world and sent back to a ruined, demon-overrun Earth to clear his name. Play mixes weighty melee combat against demons and angels with Zelda-style dungeons, exploration and environmental puzzles. Combat is bloody and features brutal player-executed finishing moves that dismember or tear apart enemies. The setting is heavily apocalyptic, with the near-extinction of humanity and a war between Heaven and Hell running through the story, alongside demonic and infernal imagery. There is mild profanity, no sexual content or nudity, and no drugs, gambling or online interaction — it is a single-player game with no purchases.

How it's framed

The game frames its violence as a cosmic quest for justice and balance: War is a wronged figure hunting the true architect of the apocalypse, and slaying demonic and angelic foes is the core, rewarded activity. Brutal finishers are presented as empowering, stylised spectacle in a comic-book art style rather than as realistic cruelty, and the apocalyptic devastation is treated as grave backdrop driving the hero's mission.
