Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition is a single-player open-world crime game bundling the main story of Eastern European immigrant Niko Bellic with its two episodes, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, set in a satirical version of New York City. The player drives, explores, and completes missions built around shooting, chases, and heists as a criminal working for gangs and bosses. Content includes bloody realistic gunfights and vehicular mayhem, pervasive strong profanity, alcohol and drug dealing, strip clubs with topless dancers and a scene of full male nudity, sex with prostitutes, and a grim story of revenge and betrayal. The original online multiplayer relied on the now-defunct Games for Windows LIVE service, so in practice it plays as a single-player experience.
How it's framed
The game frames its crime and violence through dark satire and a morally weary protagonist who often questions the cost of the life he leads; the world mocks American consumerism and celebrity, and while crime is the core mechanic and is rewarded with money and progress, the tone is cynical and consequences and grief are shown rather than glamorized.
