Firearm and physics-object combat between players' Combine and Resistance characters; hits produce blood spray but no dismemberment or lingering gore.
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch is an online multiplayer first-person shooter set in the Half-Life 2 universe, where players face off in free-for-all deathmatch or Combine-versus-Resistance team battles. The core activity is shooting other players with an arsenal of guns and, most notably, using the gravity gun to fling physics objects such as barrels, crates, and even toilets as improvised weapons. Combat produces blood but no dismemberment or graphic gore. There is no story, and points are scored purely for kills. Matches run on community-hosted servers that strangers can join, and the Source engine supports in-game text and voice chat as well as custom user-made maps and mods, so the social experience is largely unmoderated and depends on whoever is on a given server.
The game presents combat as competitive arena sport with no narrative or moral context; killing opposing players earns points and is the entire objective, framed in a lighthearted, physics-driven way rather than as realistic or consequential violence.
