What it is

Little Nightmares is a side-scrolling puzzle-platformer with horror atmosphere in which you guide Six, a small girl in a yellow raincoat, as she tries to escape the Maw, an eerie underwater vessel filled with monstrous, distorted adult figures. Gameplay mixes environmental puzzles, careful platforming, and stealth-and-chase segments where you hide from or flee predatory creatures who will catch and kill Six if she is spotted. The tone is bleak and unsettling, built on themes of hunger, consumption, and childhood fear, with brief blood in death scenes, disturbing background imagery, and a scene in which the child eats a live creature. There is no spoken dialogue, sexual content, strong language, or online interaction.

How it's framed

The game presents its horror through mood, sound, and grotesque imagery rather than explicit gore, framing the child as a vulnerable figure surviving a world of threatening adults. Its darker turns, including implied cannibalism and the protagonist's growing hunger, are conveyed obliquely and left open to interpretation rather than spelled out or moralized.
