Combat is turn-based, stylized battles between creatures that faint rather than die; no blood, injury detail, or gore.
The antagonist group Team Galactic steals Pokémon and pursues a plan to remake the world, and the player thwarts them; wrongdoing is depicted in a stylized, cartoonish way.
Pokemon Shining Pearl is a 2021 Nintendo Switch remake of the 2006 role-playing game Pokemon Pearl, set in the fictional Sinnoh region. The player travels the map catching creatures called Pokemon, training them, and having them battle other trainers' Pokemon in turn-based combat as they work toward becoming the region's champion while foiling a criminal team's scheme. The content is very mild: battles are entirely bloodless and end when a Pokemon 'faints,' and there is no sexual content, profanity, substances, or scary material. Online features let players trade and battle with others over Nintendo Switch Online, but there is no built-in open voice or text chat.
The game frames its conflict as a wholesome coming-of-age adventure in which kindness to and partnership with one's Pokemon is rewarded; the antagonists' plan to reshape the world is presented as clearly misguided, and the story resolves without graphic or morally ambiguous content.
