What it is

Ring of Elysium was a free-to-play online battle royale shooter in which sixty players parachute into a large map and fight to be among the last four survivors while escaping an unfolding natural disaster such as a snowstorm, volcanic eruption, or typhoon. Players scavenge for guns and gear, use traversal tools like snowboards, hang gliders, grappling hooks, and bikes, and shoot other players with realistic firearms; hits produce blood but the combat is not gory. The core content is competitive gunplay against other human players. It was an online multiplayer game with voice and text chat, so players could encounter strangers and hear unscripted language and competitive trash talk. The game's servers were permanently shut down in December 2023 and it is no longer playable.

How it's framed

Combat is framed as survival competition against other players amid a disaster scenario; enemies are anonymous human opponents rather than targets tied to any group, and the narrative emphasizes escaping catastrophe rather than glorifying killing.
