What it is

SCUM is a hardcore open-world survival game where you play a prisoner dropped onto a large island as part of a fictional televised death game and must find food, water, and shelter while looting, crafting, hunting, and fighting to stay alive. It leans on a deep body-simulation system tracking hunger, health, wounds, and bodily functions, and combat is frequent and bloody against other players, AI prisoners, and reanimated or robotic enemies. The game contains full character nudity that can be disabled in settings, brewing and use of alcohol and drugs, and hunting of wild animals for food. It can be played solo or online with up to dozens of other players on servers that include open voice and text chat, and it offers optional cosmetic DLC.

How it's framed

The game frames its harsh content as survival realism rather than glorified spectacle: violence, wounds, drug use, and bodily needs are presented as systems to manage in a bleak prison-island scenario. Killing other prisoners and scavenging are treated as neutral survival choices left entirely to the player, with no in-game judgment attached, and mature elements like nudity are made optional through settings.
