Psychological, Backrooms-inspired horror built on unsettling empty rooms, a stalking entity, and tense chase and jump moments.
The mood is one of unease and quiet dread, with a decaying, 'something is wrong' atmosphere across the eerie liminal spaces.
Subliminal is a single-player psychological horror game inspired by the Backrooms urban legend. You explore handcrafted, dreamlike liminal environments — empty pool rooms, playrooms, and other nostalgic-yet-wrong spaces — solving light- and perspective-based puzzles while a narrator offers one-sided commentary and subtle hints. The mood is eerie and disorienting, with a lurking entity, chase sequences, and jump moments that create fear through atmosphere and dread rather than violence or blood. There is no combat, no gore, no sexual content, and no chat or purchases; multiple branching endings (including one called 'Rotten') encourage replay.
The game frames its content as atmospheric psychological horror: the tension comes from environmental unease, isolation, and being pursued in surreal spaces, not from graphic imagery, gore, or mature themes. Nothing is presented as reward for harm; the experience is exploratory and puzzle-driven with a creeping sense of wrongness.
