What it is

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is a remaster of the classic 1998 Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game set in the Forgotten Realms. Played from a top-down isometric view, you create a hero and lead a party of companions across the Sword Coast, taking quests, exploring towns and dungeons, and fighting bandits, cultists, and monsters in pausable real-time combat. Content includes fantasy weapon and spell violence with light blood effects, a story built around murder and the protagonist's divine parentage, taverns where alcohol is sold and drunk, opportunities to steal or kill, undead and spider encounters, and mild suggestive and romance dialogue including prostitute NPCs in the city. It can be played solo or in host/invite cooperative multiplayer.

How it's framed

The game frames the world through Dungeons & Dragons alignment, letting the player choose good, neutral, or evil paths; heroism, theft, and violence are presented as player choices with in-game reputation consequences rather than being endorsed, and the central conflict positions the player against forces spreading war and murder.
