What it is

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a first-person military shooter that concludes the original Modern Warfare trilogy. Its cinematic single-player campaign follows special forces across a fictional near-future world war, moving through cities such as New York, London, Paris and Berlin. Play is built around realistic gunfights against human enemies, with blood shown on hit and bodies that remain but no dismemberment. The story carries heavy subject matter: terrorist bombings, mass civilian casualties, and a chemical attack on London that is partly shown through a family's video in which a young child is killed. Scripted dialogue includes strong profanity. Alongside the campaign are cooperative Spec Ops and Survival modes and a competitive online multiplayer with in-game voice and text chat that is not moderated.

How it's framed

The campaign frames its soldiers and operatives as protagonists working to stop a terrorist plot, presenting terrorist attacks on civilians as atrocities to be avenged rather than celebrated. Violence is treated as heroic military duty, and the emotional weight of the London attack and character deaths is used to heighten the stakes rather than for shock alone.
