What it is

Contraband Police puts you in the boots of a border guard and post commander in Acaristan, a fictional communist country in 1981. Most of the game is methodical inspection work: checking travelers' documents for forgeries and searching their vehicles for smuggled goods such as weapons, drugs, and alcohol. It regularly breaks into action, though — smugglers try to run when caught, and armed groups raid your checkpoint, leading to realistic gunfights with blood but no graphic gore. You can play it straight as an honest officer or bend the rules by pocketing bribes and reselling confiscated contraband on the black market. It is a single-player experience with no chat or online interaction.

How it's framed

The game frames border enforcement under an authoritarian regime as morally gray work: you are pressured by quotas and low pay, and the systems openly let you profit through corruption, so choices like taking bribes or selling seized goods are presented as available options with consequences rather than as heroism or condemnation.
