What it is

Deathloop is a first-person action game in which you play Colt, an assassin trapped on the island of Blackreef, reliving the same day until he can kill eight targets before midnight. Play is built around gunfights, stealth takedowns, and supernatural powers, with realistic shooting and blood but no gore or dismemberment. The dialogue features frequent strong profanity and flirtatious, sometimes crude sexual banter between the leads. The world depicts heavy drinking, drug-fueled parties, and a generally dark, murder-driven premise. An optional online mode lets another player invade as the rival Julianna to hunt you, but the game has no in-app purchases and no built-in player chat.

How it's framed

The game removes the morality systems of the studio's earlier work, framing killing as a puzzle to solve rather than a moral choice; violence against the targets is presented as stylish and rewarded, with a wry, irreverent tone rather than earnest condemnation or endorsement.
