What it is

In this single-player, narrative-focused third-person shooter, players take on the role of Jack Joyce, whose botched experiment with a time machine leaves him able to bend time itself; he then finds himself pitted against a company known as Monarch. Fighting centers on grounded firearm combat versus human opponents, showing blood without graphic gore, and it is combined with science-fiction talents such as halting, dashing through, and shielding oneself with time. Interspersed with the gameplay are filmed television-style episodes, and what unfolds in them changes according to decisions players lock in at pivotal 'junction points.' Coarse language appears, adult characters are shown drinking and smoking, and weighty dramatic subject matter surrounds a looming apocalypse; there is nothing sexual, no nudity, and no online features.

How it's framed

Jack is cast as an unwilling protagonist attempting to avert a catastrophe rooted in time, so his use of force reads as defending himself and saving others rather than as something the story glorifies. The forking 'junction' decisions are intentionally built as murky ethical calls that exact a price whichever way they fall, while betrayal, sacrifice, and the moral questions of wielding control over time sit at the emotional core of the plot.
