What it is

Deponia: The Complete Journey collects the three-part comedic point-and-click adventure set on Deponia, a planet buried under endless trash. You play Rufus, a self-absorbed schemer forever hatching hare-brained plans to escape his junk-heap home, and progress by solving inventory and logic puzzles across absurd hand-drawn scenes. The tone is broad slapstick comedy, though it plays out against a genuinely bleak backdrop and a downbeat streak that runs through the ending. Content is light: cartoon knockabout violence, flirtation and mild suggestive humor, occasional mild profanity, alcohol in the world's dingier corners, and a hero who lies, cons and swipes things from people to get his way. There is no gore, no explicit content, and no online play, purchases or chat.

How it's framed

The game plays its protagonist's selfishness and petty dishonesty for laughs rather than presenting them approvingly, and its trickery and slapstick are framed as absurd comedy. Underneath the jokes it leans into a melancholy, fatalistic view of its dying world, and the trilogy's conclusion is deliberately bittersweet.
