Europa Universalis IV is a grand strategy game where you steer one of over 500 real historical nations across the early modern period (roughly 1444 to 1821), guiding it through diplomacy, trade, colonization, technology, religion, and war. Play is entirely map-based and menu-driven: you make decisions as a nation's ruler and watch outcomes unfold in numbers and abstract army markers rather than as scenes of people. War is present but bloodless and stylized, shown as unit counters and casualty tallies. Historical themes such as conquest, colonial expansion, missionary conversion, and slaves as a trade commodity appear as game systems. There is no sexual content, nudity, profanity, or substance use. Online multiplayer lets you play with others and includes text chat, so players may encounter strangers in game lobbies.
