Realistic firearm combat between teams of human contractors, with blood on hits but no gore or dismemberment.
The player is a hired mercenary whose objective is to break into a secure building, get past its defences and steal data off a laptop, shooting the guards protecting it. The theft is the goal the player is scored on rather than something happening in the background.
Set in virtual reality on the PlayStation VR headset, Firewall Zero Hour casts players as paid mercenaries who take on missions alongside a squad. Its central mode splits eight players into two groups of four: attackers attempt to break through a firewall and extract data from a laptop target, while defenders try to stop them. Play revolves around grounded firearm combat, with loadouts players can customize, and it rewards using cover and coordinating with teammates to take down opponents who are other live players. Guns are the primary tool, and landing hits produces some blood, though the game leaves out graphic gore, severed limbs, sexual material, and drug or alcohol use. Online interaction happens mainly through voice chat—both proximity-based and team-wide—among real people.
The conflict is presented as paid, mission-oriented tactical labor carried out by rival mercenary crews. Players earn experience points and an in-game currency called 'Crypto' by finishing objectives and wiping out the other team, so progression stems from winning the contest rather than from any portrayal of brutality. The depiction of violence stays plain and competitive instead of being played up for shock.
