Created by Bennett Foddy, Getting Over It is a solo physics-based climbing title. The player guides a figure seated inside a metal pot, using the mouse to wield an oversized sledgehammer and pull the character upward across a peak assembled from boulders, discarded furniture, and various barriers. Nothing saves your position along the way, meaning one slip may send the figure tumbling a long distance below, and the harsh design is deliberate. Players will find no fighting, gore, sexual material, profanity, drugs, or in-app spending; the whole activity consists of climbing accompanied by the creator's measured narration, which shares reflective ideas and quoted passages on the themes of failure, loss, and pushing onward. Its reputation for maddening play has led numerous user write-ups to express irritation through hyperbolic and occasionally vulgar language, yet such material appears nowhere within the software.
Difficulty stands as the whole purpose here, with the creator plainly admitting the work was built to challenge and aggravate whoever plays it. Through his narrated remarks, the developer casts each backfall as a contemplation of letdown and stamina instead of a penalty, drawing players toward calm and thought whenever ground is surrendered. No aggression, misconduct, or adult themes appear that would call for evaluation.
