What it is

Graveyard Keeper is a medieval graveyard-and-church management sim with farming, crafting, fishing and a deep technology tree. A modern man wakes in a fantasy village and must run its cemetery while searching for a way home. Core play involves receiving corpses, dissecting them on an autopsy table to remove organs, flesh and bones, and then burying or disposing of the bodies; the player can also grind human remains into meat and sell it as food to villagers. Combat is light — a sword against undead enemies in an underground dungeon, with pixel-art blood. The player brews and sells alcohol (expanded by the tavern DLC) and, with the Breaking Dead DLC, reanimates corpses into zombie workers. The setting carries steady macabre subject matter — death, witch-burning and cannibalism — rendered in cartoonish top-down pixel art. It is single-player with no online features and no in-app purchases.

How it's framed

The game presents its grim material as deadpan dark comedy, billing itself as 'the most inaccurate medieval cemetery sim' and framing corpse-harvesting and the sale of human meat as routine, profit-driven busywork rather than shock. Disturbing acts are abstracted into resource icons and management loops, and the tone stays wry throughout, with the premise built around 'questionable decisions' and ethical dilemmas played for laughs.
