What it is

Jump Force is a crossover fighting game that pits heroes and villains from decades of Weekly Shonen Jump manga against one another in three-on-three battles set in real-world locations rendered in a semi-realistic style. Players build combos of punches, sword swings and flashy super-moves, switching between a team of three characters to drain the opponent's health bar; a story mode lets you create a custom avatar and join the fight against an army of mind-controlled villains. Combat is energetic but bloodless — characters are hurled around and knocked out without visible injury. The plot carries some heavier notes of war, mind control and revenge, and a few roster characters wear revealing outfits. Online play featured lobbies where players could meet, chat by voice or text, and battle strangers, though those online services have since been discontinued.

How it's framed

The game frames its fights as a heroic team-up: recognizable manga protagonists band together to repel an invasion and free comrades who have been corrupted, treating combat as spectacle rather than harm. Distressing elements — deaths, a vengeance-driven antagonist, the threat to humanity — are presented in the earnest, good-versus-evil register of the source manga.
