Optional real-money purchases buy card packs containing randomized cards used to build stronger decks.

Warfare is abstracted into card play; unit cards representing soldiers, tanks, planes, and ships attack each other and an enemy headquarters, with no on-screen blood, gore, or depicted human injury.

The game draws on real World War II nations, battles, and wartime propaganda-style art as its setting, though conflict is presented only as tactical card play.

What it is

KARDS is an online card-collecting title, playable at no cost, set during the Second World War. Two competitors each build and pilot a deck aligned with one of the conflict's leading nations — Germany, Britain, the USSR, America, or Japan — and the goal is to wipe out the opposing side's headquarters. The playing field runs across three separate lanes. Fighting happens purely through the cards themselves: pieces representing foot soldiers, armored vehicles, planes, and warships clash, yet nothing shows wounds, bleeding, or people being hurt. The visual style draws on genuine period recruitment posters and art styled after wartime messaging campaigns. Modes span bot opponents, competitive and drafted matches versus real people, and solo missions modeled on actual engagements from the era. Written messaging between rivals is available, and bundles of cards can be bought using actual currency. A common complaint among critics is that money buys an edge, with many stating that serious competition calls for heavy purchasing, and that certain rivals fire off messages meant to provoke or rattle them.

How it's framed

The title treats the Second World War as a matchup of maneuvering and force construction rather than a narrative about bloodshed or what it costs people; the conflict serves as a competitive setting, and the era's countries and militaries appear even-handedly as selectable teams, with no side praised or blamed.
