Rum distilleries and cigar factories are core industries the player builds, produces, and exports as commodities.
As ruler the player can rig elections, embezzle public money into a personal Swiss bank account, and impose martial law.
Stylized, bloodless top-down conflict: soldiers put down rebel uprisings and superpowers can invade, with no gore shown.
The game jokes about dictatorship, rigged elections, and Cold War oppression through a tongue-in-cheek satirical lens.
Tropico 6 is a satirical city-building and government management simulation in which you play 'El Presidente', ruler of a fictional Caribbean island nation across the colonial era, the World Wars, the Cold War and modern times. You lay out towns, build farms and industries, manage an economy, hold (or rig) elections, juggle political factions, and keep the superpowers happy while staying in power. Content is light and comedic: conflict is abstracted and bloodless (small-scale army, rebel and invasion skirmishes you can direct), rum and cigars are produced and traded as industries, and the humor leans on dictatorship tropes like corruption, propaganda, electoral fraud and stashing money offshore. There is no sexual content, nudity, strong language or gore. An optional online co-op mode with chat exists alongside the main single-player game.
The game frames dictatorship and corruption through broad, self-aware satire and radio comedy rather than realism; oppression, fraud and graft are gameplay levers played for laughs, and the player is free to rule as a brutal strongman or a benevolent reformer with the only firm goal being to remain in office.
