Stylized, bloodless swordplay (chambara) where cartoon avatars spar with foam-like blades to knock each other off a platform; no injury or gore.
This title carries forward the Wii Sports lineage, using the Joy-Con controllers' motion sensing so that a player's physical swings and gestures drive the on-screen action. Eight pared-down athletic activities are included: tennis, bowling, golf, badminton, volleyball, soccer, basketball, and a sword-dueling mode called chambara. Competitors appear as rounded, personalizable characters, either Miis or the newer Sportsmates. Depiction stays plain throughout. The lone physical-contest activity is the sword mode, rendered without gore, where figures knock one another off a raised stage. Absent from the game are blood, coarse language, drugs or alcohol references, and sexual material. Group play seats as many as four people together on one system, while internet matchmaking pairs up two competitors; when strangers meet online, neither spoken nor typed messaging is available.
Presentation leans toward cheerful, all-ages athletic rivalry. The dueling activity comes across as good-natured practice bouts rather than genuine fighting, and the only aggressive act shown is bumping a rival out of the ringed arena.
