Stylized platformer combat in which the spirit Ori and companion orb Sein shoot 'Spirit Flames' to defeat corrupted forest creatures; no blood or gore.
The story centers on loss: a caretaker creature starves to death leaving the protagonist orphaned, and a grieving mother owl becomes hostile after her hatchlings die, all handled tenderly rather than graphically.
Ori and the Blind Forest is a hand-painted 2D action-platformer (Metroidvania) in which you guide Ori, a small white forest spirit, and a guiding orb named Sein through a withering forest to restore its light. Play consists of jumping, climbing, solving environmental puzzles, exploring, and using spirit-light attacks to defeat hostile creatures and clear paths. Combat is stylized and bloodless with no gore. The chief mature element is emotional: the narrative deals openly with death, grief, and loss — an adoptive caretaker dies of starvation, the hero is orphaned, and a mother owl mourns lost offspring. There is no sexual content, nudity, strong language, substances, or gambling, and the game is single-player only with no chat, user content, or purchases.
The game frames its content through a gentle, fairy-tale lens: hardship, death, and grief are presented as part of a story about loss, sacrifice, and restoring balance to nature. Even the antagonist's hostility is ultimately shown to stem from her own grief, and the emphasis throughout is on beauty, perseverance, and healing rather than menace or cruelty.
