What it is

Outriders is a third-person looter-shooter with role-playing systems, set on a hostile alien planet where a human colony has collapsed into civil war. Players create a mutant-powered soldier from one of four classes and fight through waves of human, humanoid, and monstrous-creature enemies using guns and supernatural abilities. The combat is deliberately brutal and very bloody, with powers and weapons that spray blood and can dismember or blow apart enemies. The dialogue carries strong profanity, and the story is grim, dealing with mass death, desperation, and a dying-Earth premise. It can be played solo or in online three-player co-op with voice and text chat, and it has no in-app purchases.

How it's framed

The game frames its violence as core to a power fantasy: killing enemies is rewarded with loot and is even how the player regenerates health, so aggression is mechanically incentivized. The world is presented as morally bleak and survivalist, with the story treating the colony's suffering and infighting as tragic rather than glorified, though the gore itself is styled as satisfying spectacle.
