What it is

Puppeteer is a side-scrolling platformer staged as a live puppet show, complete with a cheering audience. You play Kutaro, a boy turned into a wooden puppet who is beheaded and must grab swappable heads as he adventures across a fairy-tale moon world. Armed with magic scissors, he snips through scenery, battles storybook villains and the twelve zodiac generals of the Moon Bear King, and frees the trapped souls of other children. The combat is cartoonish and bloodless — cutting, bombing, and slamming fantastical foes — and the hero comically pops his head off when hurt. Beneath the playful presentation runs a mild fairy-tale darkness about kidnapped children's souls and a soul-devouring tyrant, plus a few lightly spooky, Halloween-flavored areas. It supports one player or two-player local co-op and has no online play, chat, or purchases.

How it's framed

The game frames its content as a theatrical fairy tale: a heroic quest to rescue captured children's souls and restore a deposed Goddess, with peril and menace played for storybook whimsy and slapstick rather than realism or shock.
