What it is

Told from a third-person perspective, this survival-horror action title follows two duos who have been confined on an isolated island prison. Each pair battles through humans warped into monsters, trying to stay alive while piecing together what has been done to those imprisoned there. Play combines poking around environments, managing limited supplies, and fighting with both guns and close-range weapons. The bloodshed shown is explicit: gore, spilled blood, and enemies torn apart all appear on screen, while the mood draws its tension from murky settings, ambushes, and a sense of foreboding. Its plot handles weighty themes, among them abduction, testing performed on people, and deliberately provoked fear, and coarse language runs throughout the dialogue. Because it allows cooperative sessions over the internet as well as side by side, participants can be exposed to spoken and typed messages from strangers.

How it's framed

Its frightening content and bloodshed are positioned as a struggle to stay alive against foes twisted by experimentation, with the characters you control portrayed as prisoners working to break free and reveal the brutality of a researcher. Abduction and testing on human beings show up as crimes committed by the villain, which the leads stand against, rather than as things carried out by the person playing.
