Cartoon competitive combat: players fire rockets, drop mines and spikes, and swing grappling hooks to knock rival runners off-screen, with no blood, injury detail, or gore.
SpeedRunners is a fast-paced multiplayer side-scrolling race in which up to four cartoon characters sprint, jump, and swing on grappling hooks through obstacle-filled courses, trying to leave rivals behind so they drop off the shrinking screen and get eliminated. Players grab power-ups and gadgets — rockets, spikes, ice blocks, hooks — to trip up and knock out opponents in a slapstick, bloodless way. It can be played locally on one couch or online with strangers, and Steam's voice and text chat are available in online matches; there are no in-game purchases and the only content that varies performance is a joke 'mystery' skin that deliberately handicaps the player who picks it. Content is limited to light cartoon competitive mischief.
The game frames its conflict as good-natured competitive rivalry: knocking opponents off-screen is a scoring mechanic played for laughs, with colorful characters and no injury, consequence, or malice depicted.
