What it is

StarCraft II is a science-fiction real-time strategy game where you build bases, gather resources, and command armies of one of three factions — the human Terrans, the insectoid Zerg, or the psychic Protoss — against opponents or the computer. The story campaign follows a galactic war told through polished cinematic cutscenes, which show soldier combat deaths with brief blood, alien body-horror creatures, and adult characters drinking and smoking in bar scenes; language stays mild. Online play offers ranked matches, custom user-made maps and mods in the Arcade, and text chat with strangers, where competitive lobbies can get toxic.

How it's framed

The game frames its conflict as a grim survival war among three species, with morally mixed heroes and villains rather than a clear right side; violence is presented as tactical warfare and cinematic spectacle, and the mature edges (drinking, grit, and gore) sit in service of a war story rather than being celebrated.
