Cartoon platforming combat: Mario stomps enemies or knocks them out by throwing his hat, with no blood or injury shown; foes simply vanish.
Super Mario Odyssey is a colorful 3D platforming adventure in which Mario travels between whimsical kingdoms aboard a hat-shaped airship to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, who is trying to force her into marriage. Using a living hat named Cappy, Mario throws his cap to briefly take control of enemies and objects, solving puzzles and reaching hidden collectibles called Power Moons. Combat is limited to gentle, bloodless stomping and cap-throwing that makes cartoon enemies disappear, and there is no blood, foul language, sexual content, or substance use. Play is mostly single-player, with an optional local co-op mode where a second person controls Cappy; there is no online chat or interaction with strangers.
The game frames its conflict in lighthearted, comedic terms: the villain's kidnapping-and-forced-wedding plot is played for cartoon stakes, and Mario's goal is straightforwardly heroic rescue and exploration. Conflict is resolved through playful platforming rather than realistic harm, and the tone stays cheerful and adventurous throughout.
