Superliminal is a first-person puzzle game in which the player navigates a series of surreal dream-therapy rooms and escapes by exploiting optical illusions and forced perspective — picking up objects and resizing them based on where you look before setting them down. There is no combat, no bad language, no sexual content, and no substances; the entire experience is quiet, exploratory puzzle-solving guided by a calm narrator's voice. The tone is trippy and dreamlike, with a few mildly surreal or disorienting sequences, but nothing frightening or graphic. Later console and mobile versions added optional co-op play with others.
The game frames its dream-therapy premise around personal growth and shifting perspective: the player is a patient who becomes trapped in a recurring dream and must learn to see problems from new angles to escape, ending on an uplifting message about applying that outlook to real life. Its content is entirely abstract and puzzle-focused, with no morally charged acts to reward or punish.
