What it is

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr is a top-down, Diablo-style action role-playing game set in the grim far-future of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. You play an agent of the Imperial Inquisition sent to purge a sector of Chaos cults, heretics and alien invaders, choosing from combat-focused classes and grinding through randomized missions for gear. Combat is constant and lethal: the player mows down large numbers of human and inhuman enemies with ranged and melee weapons, with blood effects and bodies but no emphasized close-up gore. The world is bleak and violent throughout, steeped in a totalitarian human empire, daemonic corruption, and occult Chaos rituals that the story centers on. It can be played solo or in online co-op with voice and text chat, and the base game has no real-money microtransactions.

How it's framed

The game presents its violence as righteous holy war: the player is an unquestioned agent of authority exterminating corruption, and killing is rewarded with experience and loot. It leans fully into the franchise's deliberately grim, over-the-top tone, framing Chaos worship, mutation and cruelty as the horror to be cleansed rather than glorified, while never questioning the Imperium's own brutality.
