What it is

Watch Dogs 2 is an open-world action-adventure game set in a recreated San Francisco Bay Area. You play as Marcus Holloway, a young hacker who joins the collective DedSec to expose a corporate surveillance system. Gameplay mixes on-foot exploration, driving, stealth, and combat with a hacking layer that lets you manipulate phones, cameras, vehicles, and city infrastructure, aided by a small drone and remote car. Expect realistic gunfire and vehicle mayhem with blood (though many missions allow non-lethal stealth), frequent strong profanity, drug and alcohol references, adult sexual themes and some nudity, and crime committed by the player as a core mechanic. An always-online layer lets other players hack or join your game, but there is no in-game voice or text chat, and optional real-money purchases exist.

How it's framed

The game frames its lawbreaking as hacktivism: Marcus and DedSec are portrayed as underdogs exposing corruption, invasive data collection, and abuse of power, so hacking, theft, and violence are cast as justified pushback against corporate and criminal villains. Players are frequently given the choice to complete objectives without killing, and lethal versus non-lethal approaches are left to the player rather than mandated.
