The killer's finishing moves are shown in lingering close-up: heads torn off or crushed, bodies split with a machete, faces smashed, torsos impaled and folded. Blood sprays heavily and the mutilated bodies stay in the level.
Jason's signature kill animations, triggered by the player, dismember, decapitate, impale and crush counselors' bodies in lingering close-up.
Panicked counselors shout strong profanity, including 'fuck', during chases.
The premise is a killer hunting and murdering young counselors, who die on screen throughout each match.
The core loop is being stalked by an unstoppable killer, with tense chases, hiding, and the constant threat of a brutal death.
Several counselors wear swimwear, short shorts and other revealing outfits; no nudity is shown.
Alcohol and marijuana fit the counselors' partying and are referenced through the camp setting.
Suggestive framing in the slasher mold — flirtatious counselor personas and revealing poses — with nothing sexual shown.
Friday the 13th: The Game is an asymmetrical horror game based on the slasher film series, set in and around the fictional Camp Crystal Lake in the 1980s. One player controls the masked killer Jason Voorhees, who stalks and murders the other characters' camp counselors, while the counselors try to repair vehicles, call for help, or survive until time runs out — a few can even band together to kill Jason. Its defining content is extremely graphic violence: Jason's kill animations show heads crushed and bodies impaled, split and dismembered in gory close-up, with blood throughout. Counselors wear revealing summer outfits, shout strong profanity while panicking, and the camp-party setting carries alcohol and drug references. The whole experience is built on fear — being hunted by a relentless killer. The game launched as an online multiplayer title, but its online servers were permanently shut down at the end of 2024, leaving only an offline mode against computer-controlled counselors.
The game casts the player either as prey fleeing a relentless killer or as the killer himself, and it rewards Jason for hunting down and slaughtering counselors as brutally and efficiently as possible. Violence is presented as spectacle in the style of the slasher films it adapts, with kills staged as elaborate gory set pieces; there is no framing that the killing is wrong, and the counselors' only stated goals are to survive and escape.
