What it is

Metro Exodus is a single-player first-person shooter set across the post-apocalyptic ruins of Russia and Kazakhstan, following survivor Artyom and his companions on a year-long journey by train through irradiated wilderness. Players scavenge for supplies, craft ammunition and gas-mask filters, and fight through firefights against human raiders, slavers, and religious cults as well as mutated animals and monsters, with realistic gunplay, blood, and gory wounds. The world is bleak, dealing with slavery, cult fanaticism, radiation, and the deaths of companions, and dark tunnels and grotesque creatures produce frequent tension and frightening moments. Alcohol and smoking appear in the crew's downtime, and the dialogue includes occasional profanity and mild suggestive moments; there is no online play, microtransactions, or explicit sexual content.

How it's framed

The story frames survival and human connection as its core, presenting the bond among the Aurora's crew as a found family. A morality system quietly rewards restraint and mercy — sparing surrendering enemies and helping civilians can change the ending — rather than glorifying killing, and hostile factions like slavers and cultists are cast as clear antagonists whose cruelty the player is positioned against.
