What it is

Rare Replay is a compilation of 30 games made by the studio Rare across three decades, ranging from tiny 1980s home-computer titles to Xbox 360 releases. Most of the games are single-player and span platformers, racing, fighting, shooters and simulation. The bulk of the collection is lighthearted, but it includes a few mature titles: Conker's Bad Fur Day is an adult comedy full of crude humor, censored strong profanity, sexual innuendo and a drunk-and-relieve-yourself beer mechanic, while Perfect Dark, Perfect Dark Zero and Jet Force Gemini are shooters with realistic gunfire and blood. Grabbed by the Ghoulies adds a cartoon-spooky haunted house, and the package also holds behind-the-scenes videos and challenge snapshots.

How it's framed

The collection presents its older games largely unaltered, preserving their original tone from wholesome cartoon platformers to a deliberately vulgar adult comedy that plays its drinking, swearing and toilet humor for laughs. Violence in the shooters is framed as action-hero combat, and the darker war and death moments in Conker sit alongside its comedy rather than being dwelt on.
