What it is

Resistance 3 is a first-person shooter set in an alternate 1950s where an alien race called the Chimera has overrun Earth and is exterminating what remains of humanity. Playing as survivor Joseph Capelli, the player travels across a ruined United States, using an arsenal of scavenged and exotic weapons to fight human-sized and enormous alien enemies. Combat is bloody and frequent: enemies bleed, bodies remain, and some weapons cause foes to burst apart or explode. The tone leans into survival-horror, with dark, claustrophobic areas where creatures swarm and hunt the player. The human characters swear, including strong language, and the overarching story deals with genocide, the collapse of civilization, and a father trying to save his ailing son.

How it's framed

The game frames the player as a desperate survivor defending the last of humanity against an overwhelming alien threat, presenting the violence as necessary resistance rather than something rewarded for its own sake; the darkness of extinction and loss is treated as grim backdrop to a story of endurance and protecting family.
