What it is

A first-person shooter set in the Alien vs. Predator universe, with three linked single-player campaigns — Colonial Marine, Alien, and Predator — and online multiplayer. The Marine campaign plays like survival horror: the player is hunted through dark facilities by swarming Aliens, tracking threats with a beeping motion sensor. The Alien and Predator campaigns are stalk-and-kill, emphasising stealth pounces and ambush. The game is extremely graphic: gunfire and melee produce blood and blown-off limbs, and the player performs close-up 'trophy kills' in which the Predator rips out skulls and spines and the Alien decapitates and impales. Dark subject matter runs through it — the Alien reproductive cycle, with human hosts implanted by facehuggers and chestbursters. Marine dialogue carries strong profanity. There is no sexual content, nudity, or drug and alcohol content.

How it's framed

Graphic killing is the game's core reward: signature trophy and stealth kills are framed as spectacle and shown in lingering close-up, and violence is presented as visceral horror-action against the franchise's creatures and hostile human soldiers. The three factions are all presented as predators and prey rather than good or evil.
