Bloodless, cartoon action limited to vacuuming up gelatinous slimes and splashing aggressive black 'Tarr' slimes with water to make them dissolve.
The game is bought once and has no in-game store, currency purchases or ads. The only optional spending is a small paid add-on that unlocks alternate cosmetic appearances for the slimes.
Fictional gelatinous 'slimes' are sucked up with a vacuum-backpack and kept for farming, and corrupted 'Tarr' slimes are neutralized by spraying them with water, with no blood, injury, or gore shown.
Slime Rancher is a bright, first-person farming and exploration game in which you play Beatrix LeBeau, a young rancher on a distant planet called the Far Far Range. You explore colorful open environments, use a vacuum-backpack to collect cute gelatinous 'slimes,' feed them to harvest sellable 'plorts,' and use the earnings to build and upgrade your ranch. The tone is relaxing and whimsical throughout. The only conflict comes from environmental hazards and 'Tarr' slimes—corrupted creatures that can damage the player and are neutralized by spraying water, with no blood, injury, or gore. There is no sexual content, profanity, substance use, or gambling, and the game is entirely single-player with no chat, online interaction, or in-app purchases.
The game frames its content as light, good-natured adventure and management: caring for whimsical creatures, tidy problem-solving, and exploration. The 'Tarr' menace is presented as a cartoonish nuisance to clean up rather than as violence against living beings, and slimes are stylized fantasy creatures rather than realistic animals.
