Astronauts and ships fight with mounted guns, hand tools and explosives in a blocky voxel world; structures and space-suited figures are destroyed without blood, wounds or gore.
Paid DLC packs add mostly decorative and cosmetic building blocks alongside the base game.
The DLC is entirely optional with nothing time-limited, though locked blocks remain visible and greyed out in the build menu.
Space Engineers is a voxel-based engineering sandbox in which the player controls a space-suited astronaut who mines resources and builds ships, stations and planetary bases block by block in a fully destructible world. Play runs in a creative mode with unlimited resources or a survival mode with power, oxygen and hazards to manage, alone or on shared multiplayer servers. Weapons, thrusters and explosives let players damage and destroy structures and other astronauts, but combat is bloodless and blocky. The game is heavily extended by community-made blueprints, scripts and mods, and by paid DLC packs that add largely cosmetic building blocks.
The game frames itself around design, physics and construction rather than conflict; destruction is presented as an engineering and physics outcome, and any fighting between players emerges from the open sandbox rather than being scripted or rewarded by the game.
