Constant pixel-art run-and-gun combat against human mercenary enemies, who burst into small sprays of blood and chunks amid heavy explosions; stylized and exaggerated rather than realistic.

What it is

The Expendabros is a free side-scrolling run-and-gun action game, a standalone spin-off of Broforce tied to the film The Expendables 3. Playing as a rotating cast of muscle-bound action-hero characters, you blast through forest bases in Eastern Europe to take down an arms dealer and his henchmen. Nearly every surface is destructible, and gameplay revolves around rapid shooting, explosions, and collapsing terrain. Combat produces small bursts of pixelated blood and body chunks, but the whole presentation is deliberately cartoonish and over-the-top rather than lifelike. There is no sexual content, no strong language in the game itself, no substances, and no in-app purchases. It supports co-op play, but includes no built-in voice or text chat.

How it's framed

The game presents its violence as a loving, exaggerated parody of 1980s and 1990s action movies, with hero commandos gunning down faceless mercenary enemies for comedic, explosive spectacle. Enemies are generic bad guys and the tone is broad and tongue-in-cheek, so the killing is framed as slapstick heroics rather than serious or grim conflict.
