What it is

Deceit was a free-to-play online multiplayer game blending a first-person shooter with social deduction and horror. Six players wake up in a dark facility guided by a mysterious Game Master; two of them have secretly been infected and must murder the other survivors before the group escapes, while everyone tries to figure out who to trust. Gameplay centers on shooting, tense standoffs, and hidden monsters transforming to attack, with moderate violence and blood. Much of the experience runs on open voice and text chat with strangers, where reading and deceiving other players is the core mechanic. It is free with optional cosmetic purchases. The game's public servers were shut down in November 2025.

How it's framed

The game frames its violence and paranoia as a game of trust and betrayal: killing is the monsters' win condition and survivors defend themselves, all presented as a tense competitive round rather than a story that condemns or celebrates the bloodshed. Deception and manipulation of other players are the intended, rewarded skills.
