The player kills endless waves of orcs and other fantasy monsters with weapons and traps; hits produce blood spray and the combat is fast and constant, though rendered in a bright, cartoonish style.
War against invading hordes sits in the backdrop and the old master war mage dies in the opening cutscene, but the tone is played for comedy rather than distress.
Dialogue between the War Mage and his former master includes occasional mild profanity such as 'damn' and 'hell'.
Orcs Must Die! 3 is a comedic action tower-defense game in which you play a boastful War Mage defending magical rifts from waves of invading orcs, ogres and other fantasy monsters. You place traps — spinning blades, spikes, tar, fire and lightning — and wade in with melee weapons and spells to destroy the horde before it reaches the rift. Combat is fast, cartoonish and over-the-top: orcs die by the hundreds, spraying blood and bursting apart in an exaggerated comic style, but there is no realistic gore, sexual content, nudity or substance use. The writing is quippy and carries occasional mild profanity. It can be played solo or in online co-op, where voice and text chat with other players are available.
The tone is broad comedy: slaying orcs is framed as gleeful, over-the-top fun, and the War Mage celebrates high-scoring runs with increasingly ridiculous victory dances. The orcs are cast as faceless invaders and their deaths are played for laughs rather than presented as anything weighty.
