What it is

Set in Ashenfall, a long-lost landmass within the RuneScape fantasy universe where dragons have stirred from their slumber, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a survival title playable solo or cooperatively by up to four people. The loop centres on collecting materials, constructing a home base, growing food, and raising abilities like crafting and woodcutting; spells serve in battle as well as in routine chores, and the long-term objective is a showdown against the Dragon Queen. Fights pit the player against beasts, the undead, and dragonkind in a stylised fantasy register, without any focus on blood or gore, while animals in the wild can be killed for meat and crafting supplies. A single upfront price covers the whole game — there are no purchases inside it — and multiplayer happens with people a player has invited rather than on open servers shared with strangers. Those sessions include both text and voice communication.

How it's framed

Violence in the game is cast as protecting the land's remaining inhabitants and restoring a devastated region: opponents are monstrous creatures, never human beings. Advancement comes from steady, unhurried work — collecting, constructing, and honing abilities over time. Playing together is shown in a positive light, with companions pooling supplies and living from a common base, and the catastrophe behind the ruined setting functions as a puzzle for players to piece together rather than a source of lingering grimness.
