What it is

This is a no-cost multiplayer shooter played from a first-person view, taking place while an underground research complex that holds hazardous anomalies suffers a containment failure. On spawning, participants are assigned to rival factions: captives and lab staff attempting to flee, guards and military units working to secure the location, or the anomalous creatures themselves, whose aim is to kill anyone they encounter — and everyone battles through gloomy, labyrinth-like passages. Weapons are modeled on real guns and draw blood when fired, while the frightening mood comes from creatures that hunt players, power failures, and nerve-wracking audio. Because every match involves other people, with voice carried by distance-based chat alongside typed messages, the bulk of what someone experiences aurally originates with fellow participants, and how the community acts spans teamwork and jokes on one end to crude conduct on the other.

How it's framed

Its bloodshed is cast as endurance and clan conflict amid a crisis: for anomalies and combat-oriented factions, taking lives is the built-in goal, laid out plainly with no accompanying judgment. Fear and dying function as excitement and suspense rather than being praised or denounced, and the actual mood tends toward mayhem and grim humor, since results hinge on erratic decisions made by real people.
