What it is

Minecraft is an open-ended sandbox game set in a procedurally generated world of blocks that players mine, gather, craft, and build with, either alone or with others. Days are spent exploring, farming, mining, and constructing; nights and dark caves bring hostile creatures like zombies, skeletons, spiders, and exploding Creepers that the player fights off with crafted swords and bows in blocky, stylized combat with minimal blood and no gore. Passive animals can be hunted for food and materials. There is no built-in profanity, sexual content, or substance use. The larger experience is heavily social and user-driven: players can join multiplayer servers and Realms with open text chat and countless community-made maps, mods, and mini-games, and Bedrock Edition includes an optional Marketplace where cosmetic skins and content are bought with real-money Minecoins.

How it's framed

The game presents building, exploration, and survival as its central goals with no scripted story or moral judgment; combat is framed as defending yourself and gathering resources against monsters and wildlife rather than as targeted or rewarded cruelty, and players are free to play peacefully or fight as they choose.
